Wolds cluster of schools

Working together in the Wolds

The Wolds Cluster is a group of 12 primary schools and one secondary – Woldgate College.  They are centred around Pocklington and the surrounding villages.  The primary schools range in size from 50 children to over 300 with Year 6 children generally transfering to Woldgate College for their secondary education.

Since 2008, the schools have worked closely together in an informal collaboration.  This includes the sharing of financial information to improve collective buying power, recruiting shared staff such as an SEN consultant and a Parent Support Adviser, moderating maths and English in groups, sourcing bespoke CPD and therefore enabling best practice across all schools.  This is a supportive yet “critical friend” relationship, and as such leads to overall school improvement.  The Headteachers meet every half term, and distribute leadership roles for small working parties – who then report back to the cluster meeting.  This ensures that all schools play a part in school improvement across the cluster and leads to collective ownership and responsibility.  For example in 2014 ongoing projects include putting forward a national bid to DfE for funding to design a new assessment strategy and recruiting a Wolds Sports Coordinator.

Each school is unique, with their own individual specialisms and visions.  However they are linked to each other by the shared aim of continuous school improvement so that no child in the Wolds Cluster is left behind.
