Our Teaching and Learning.

We take a thematic approach towards our learning. Where possible, links are made to different areas of the curriculum during our themes with each theme lasting either half a term or a full term. A topic letter outlining our learning during the topic is sent home at the start of each new topic. Please click on the links below to take you to our topic letters this year.

Curriculum Information.

Our topic for the autumn term will be ‘Victorians’.  We will be studying Queen Victoria, school life, life as a child, factories and toys.

Our Christian values for this term are ‘Creativity’ and ‘Courage’.

Reading/Spelling Lists.

Below you will find links to a number of lists that your child will be working towards for both reading and spelling.

It would be great if you could spare some time to listen to your child read regularly and write a supportive comment for them in their planner. Encouraging children to read regularly helps them to develop an enjoyment of books and also helps them to improve their writing skills.

It is also important to question your child on what they have read.  Below is a reading question mat that will help with this.

Reading Question Mat

Below is a link to a document that will help with your child’s writing.  It has lots of sentence openers to help your child make their writing more lively and interesting.  It will also help them to use some more ambitious punctuation.  A good exercise is to allow your child to read through and start to use them verbally first.  Once they’re confident at reading the openers, they could start to practise incorporating them into written sentences.

(Please note that this is mainly aimed at the year 4 children.)
